Project: Consultancy
Site: Bridgwater, Somerset
Client: Robert Wiseman Dairies
When: Current
A major new dairy is being constructed by Robert Wiseman Dairies at Bridgwater. WEBS undertook a feasibility study to evaluate the treatment options for the trade effluent discharge from the dairy, comparing the options of discharge to sewer versus a full on site treatment plant and discharge to river.
An on site treatment plant proved to be the most cost effective alternative, especially as the local treatment plant did not have any spare capacity.
WEBS negotiated with the Environment Agency a discharge limit and undertook a treatability study to demonstrate that the proposed limits could be met. WEBS also provided a system design for contractors to bid for the construction of the plant.
Following this work, COPA are presently constructing a MBR (Membrane BioReactor) with primary treatment using a DAF (Dissolved Air Floatation) plant.
Project: Consultancy
Site: Shouguang Prawn Farm, China
Client: Shouguang Provincial Government.
When: 2003
WEBS was contracted by Australian Environmental Technology Pty Ltd
to carry out a full on site review of facilities, management practices, feeding programmes, treatment methodologies and water quality at the Shouguang Prawn Farm, with a view to determining the strategy for optimisation of prawn production. This extensive, 17 miles long x 17 miles wide, prawn production farm was constructed in 1995 but had subsequently suffered declining yields.
The resultant studies confirmed the presence of heavy metals in the
intake waters, abstracted from the sea, which caused major inhibition to
prawn growth and development.
A remedial plan to correct the water quality was developed, enabling the contractual company, Innovative Products & Technology Pty, to manage the implementation of a phased programme of water intake control measures throughout the entire prawn
farm.
