Wastewater Treatment for Cranberry Foods BAFF TankProject: Plant Scoping, Design and Commissioning
Site: Scropton, Derbyshire
Client: Cranberry Foods
When: April/May 2006

WEBS conducted an initial flow and load survey of the wastewater stream from Cranberry Foods, Scropton.

This provided the necessary data for producing a detailed design for a full scale biological effluent treatment plant to complement the existing DAF plant and lagoon that could not meet the Environment Agency discharge consent alone.  The upgraded plant consists of a balance tank, enabling greater flow control to the DAF plant (and hence optimising DAF plant performance), followed by a SAF plant with clarifer and drum filter to ensure river quality effluent.

WEBS provided a commissioning service once the plant had been built that included daily site attendance for a two week biological commissioning period.

A process of batch feeding the SAF plant daily, with increasing volume until continuous flow could be achieved, enabled the Environment Agency discharge consent for all parameters to be achieved within eight days of seeding including full nitrification.
